The central part of Slanské vrchy Hills is filled with Makovica Hill, which visually diversifies telecommunication objects and transmitters. In addition, the peak of Makovica is also an important tourist crossroads. It offers a rich tangle of hiking trails that will take you to the most beautiful vistas, as well as dozens of kilometers of cycling trails.
Makovica is largely forested and its views are therefore very modest. However, if you go about 600 meters south of Makovica, you will find a pleasant resting place on a smaller rocky hill with a nice view of the west side.
The local forests are rich in forest fruits as well as colourful flora.The climb to Makovica is not demanding. The route leads mostly through the forest, below the rocky outlook or meadows. You can choose from several hiking trails, the simplest one leads from the village of Juskova Voľa (about 9 km away).

„Z Juskovej Vole tiež neodporúčam :D Totálne zle značenie, les vyrúbany, kriaky, tažky terén , popadané stromy . 4 hodiny len hore .. radšej zvoliť inu trasu. Ešte že sme mali appku mapycz ta nás zachránila.“

„Túra na Makovicu z Juskovej Voľe (po zelenej) a späť (po modrej) je jedna veľká katastrofa ! Absolútne zlé, respektíve žiadne značenie po celej trase, bez aplikácie turistickej mapy v smartfóne je to nemožné prejsť ! Začína to napríklad už na veľkej lúke za dedinou kde sú dve možnosti cesty, pričom na tej "správnej" je prvá značka až kdesi v lese. Absolútnym vrcholom je oblasť "Zbojnícke chyže" s množstvom vyvrátených stromov, kde sa objavujú značky úplne sporadicky a ak aj nejaká sa nájde, tak vedie nepriechodnou cestou plnou kríkov a vo veľmi prudkom svahu. Ten úsek je vrcholne nebezpečný. Po ceste je síce niekoľko "vtipných" tabúľ o zbojníkovi Juskovi, tie sú však tam len kvôli peniazom z EÚ. Sme skúsení turisti, toto však bola naša zďaleka najhoršia túra. “
