The medieval church of the Sacrifice of the Lord is the oldest preserved building in the beautiful Liptov village of Smrečany. The church is a perfect example of Liptov Gothic architecture. It was built in the late 13th and early 14th century.
A large part of the original Gothic furnishings and decorations have been preserved in the interior of the church. You can admire charming murals, wing altars, carved wooden frescoes, a permanent or a pulpit. Special attention should be paid to the Baroque organ or the late Gothic bell from 1509, which is located in the tower.
During the times of Reformation, the church taken over by the Evangelical Church in 1574 and served it until 1707, when it was permanently returned to the Catholic Church. The medieval church currently serves as a filial temple of the parish of the Roman Catholic Church in Liptovský Mikuláš-Okoličná. Worship is held every Sunday. It is necessary to arrange a sightseeing of the church in advance.
