An attractive location for hiking, located near the center of Prešov, is the Furča hill spread over the village of Haniska. It was here that one of the biggest battles of the Eastern Slovakia Peasant Uprising, also called the Choler Uprising, took place in the past.
Today, in honour of the peasant uprising, which was cruelly suppressed and in which 119 people were executed, the Peasant Rebellion Monument stands there. It is a sandstone sculpture of seven rebellious peasants, who in 1831 were frightened by an epidemic of cholera spreading from Zemplin.
From the site of the memorial is a good panoramic view of the surrounding countryside. The location is also a pleasant relaxation area and a place for undemanding tourism.
