In the forest, near the village of Moštenica, there is a place that is an oasis of peace and a great location for hiking or family trip. Just follow the forest path leading to the sounds of falling water from the Moštenica travertines.
The natural monument of Moštenica travertines is located at the end of the Uhliarský brook valley in the protection zone of the Low Tatras National Park. The subject of protection is a massive and still active travertine terrace with five water jets. Frequent imprints of leaves and snails can be seen on the travertine walls too.
Travertines are still alive and grow due to surface-flowing mineralized waters. Some of them are up to 20 m thick, with cascades 15-15 m wide. The entire travertine complex is located at an altitude of 650-800 meters above sea level and represents a six-degree cascade of about half a kilometer. The site is also interesting in terms of the occurrence of rare flora.
