The rich Jewish culture in Slovakia is documented by the Museum of Jewish Culture in Bratislava. The unique museum is housed in the Zsigray Curia. The collection of the Museum of Jewish Culture contains more than 2800 artifacts, which are presented to visitors through a permanent exhibition.
The permanent exhibition of the Museum of Jewish Culture acquaints visitors not only with culture, but also with the history of Jews living in Slovakia since the Great Moravian Empire. It shows the everyday life of the Jewish population, Jewish holidays, the interior of the synagogue and the personalities of Jewish origin who made Slovakia famous. The end of the exhibition is dedicated to the memory of approximately 70,000 Holocaust victims from Slovakia.
The permanent exhibition is complemented and extended by temporary exhibitions, which are regularly organized by the museum. Various thematic workshops are also prepared for visitors.
The most valuable exhibits that visitors can see in the museum are two precious pitchers from Senica. Krčahy dates back to 1734 and 1776 and was the property of the Jewish funeral brotherhood of Chevra Kadish. Textile curtains, blankets, metal candlesticks, lamps for eternal light, crowns, Torah shields and pointers, roots and historical books also deserve special attention.
