The Museum of Nature Conservation and Speleology is the most modern museum in Slovakia and also the only specialized museum of its kind. It offers a unique experience for visitors, during which it is possible to get to know the complex mysterious underground to the wildest Slovak mountains.
The museum is divided into 2 expositions located on four floors. The space in the basement is adapted for the exposition entitled Karst and Caves of Slovakia, which represents the phenomenon of karst in all contexts. On the ground floor, there is an exhibition dedicated to the history of the building and institution.
The first floor is dedicated to the part of the exhibition entitled Protected Nature of Slovakia - Earth, a Place for Life. The tour in this section begins with an engaging presentation of how the universe and our planet originated. This is followed by getting to know the mineralogical system, which smoothly passes into the part devoted to living nature.
Another part of the exhibition offers an introduction to the different types of habitats and the species they live in. For example, visitors can experience what it is like to enter a copy of a bear's den. At the same time, the exhibits are complemented by light and sound effects that make you feel as if you were really walking through the forest.
Visitors will then pass through the mining tunnel to the next part of the exhibition Protected Nature of Slovakia - Man, Mountains, NATURA 2000, which is devoted to the issue of sustainability.
The end of the tour can be finished on the lookout tower of the museum, from which you can see the landmarks of Liptovský Mikuláš as well as a beautiful panorama of the surrounding hills.
