The Museum of Ruthenian Culture in Prešov is one of the thematic branches of the Slovak National Museum. The museum is the youngest in Slovakia. The main activity of the museum is the acquisition, protection, scientific and professional processing and making available of the museum collections documenting the development of the material and spiritual culture of Ruthenians in the Slovak Republic. The museum is also a consulting center for Ruthenians from abroad.
The museum has three exhibitions:
History of Ruthenians in Slovakia - presents the everyday life of Ruthenians in the historical context of modern history, clothing culture, eating traditions, folk crafts, sacral architecture as well as historical and contemporary publications about Ruthenians.
Paintings of Ruthenian artists - visitors present interesting works of art borrowed from the private collection of Mr. Peter Mikula of Belovež.
Wooden temples - a collection of 38 scale copies of true-to-scale scaled copies in 1:50 scale of real sacral wooden buildings, which represent a unique demonstration of the art and craftsmanship of Ladislav Cidyl. The exposition offers a comprehensive overview of the history, origin and significance of wooden temples, their individual construction types and locations in the locations of northeastern Slovakia.
The museum also cooperates with scientific and cultural institutions at home and abroad. The result of these collaborations are temporary exhibitions that enrich the permanent exhibitions and other activities that make the museum more attractive.
