The Evangelical Church in Kežmarok has not only an unusual architecture, but also a beautiful landscape scenery in its background. It was built in 1879-1892 by the resident builder Viktor Lazary.
The church was designed by the famous Viennese architect Theofil von Hansen and was originally intended for the Orient area. That is why you can find Byzantine, Romanesque, Renaissance, Moorish or Oriental elements in its architecture.
In 1909, a mausoleum with with sarcophagus and the remains of Imrich Thököly, a native of Kežmarok and a castle owner, were added to the church. Opposite the mausoleum, a wooden wall monument to Kežmarok inhabitants - evangelicals who fell during World War I - is made.
The church serves regular worships and is *open to tourists *in fixed hours.
