The northern part of the Tatras from Štrbské pleso is littered with glittering mountain diamonds - mountain lakes. Lower Temnosmrečianske Lake can also be included in the collection of the most beautiful and famous ones.
This lake lies in the beautiful surroundings of the Temnosmrečianska Valley, which is a popular tourist location. The name came from the old, dense spruces (Temnosmrečianske means literally Dark Spruce) that grow in its lower section. There are two Temnosmrečianske Lakes. The bigger of them, Lower Temnosmrečianske Lake, is the third largest mountain lake in Slovakia.
The lake is surrounded by majestic and high cliffs of Kôprovský Peak, Čubrina and Hrubý Peak. The Lower Temnosmrečianske Lake is fed by the Temnosmrečiansky Creek, which subsequently drains the entire valley.
The Lower Temnosmrečianske Lake is accessible via marked hiking trails. Popular starting points are Podbanské (about 10.5 km) and the tourist crossroads Tri studničky (approx. 9 km). The hike begins lightly, but then the intensity of difficulty increases slightly. There is also a marked cycling trail from Podbanské to Kôprová Valley through which you will pass. In addition to visiting the lake and the valley itself, we recommend climbing up to the surrounding peaks or refreshing in several waterfalls.
