Not only Slovak, but also worldwide cave unique, Ochtinská Aragonite Cave, is located in Revúcka Highlands, between towns of Jelšava and Štítnik.
The beautiful cave was discovered accidentally in 1954 when the geological exploration gallery was cast. It is 300 meters long, 230 m of which is accessible. It is one of the three publicly accessible aragonite caves in the world. The other two are located in Mexico and Argentina. There are three generations of aragonite in the cave, creating beautiful patterns that give you the impression of the bright stars of our galaxy.
Although it is not a large cave, its aragonite decoration is extremely valuable. That is why it is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The Ochtinská Aragonite Cave is easily accessible by car and there is a cycle path and marked hiking trails too. The car park is located about 300 meters from the entrance to the cave, to which you only have to walk on foot.
In the Ochtinská Aragonite Cave access tunnel, you have to climb 104 stairs and then enter a world full of aragonite jewels.
