The Kysuce region is special for European geological unique feature. It is the oil spring in Korňa, which is a spontaneous surface oil spill with occasional outbursts of self-igniting methane.
This oil spring can be found in the village of Korňa and was declared a natural monument in 1984.
Oil is concentrated in a small lpond with a diameter of 1.5 - 2 m, above which a wooden triangular structure with the flag of the Slovak Republic is built. It is a very high-quality oil, which in the past used locally mainly for heating, lighting or lubrication.
There is free access to the oil spring. It is located about 150 m from the parking lot next to the main road.
However, the village of Korňa is unique not only thanks to the oil spring. You will find much more attractions there, such as the largest lime tree in Kysuce, windmill or typical wooden architecture.
