If you ever wander through the woods near the villages of Zamarovce and Skalka nad Váhom, or if you will be around Trenčín, be sure to stop here for a while. Right in this area, you can find interesting Opatovská Cave.
It is a karst formation but without karst decoration. In winter it turns into an ice kingdom dotted with icicles. The entrance to the cave is located at the foot of the slope at the ruins of the monastery of Veľká Skalka, which is situated in the oldest pilgrimage site of Skalka.
The Opatovská Cave was created by groundwater and seepage water. The cave consists of two corridors, which are connected in the entrance part. The western part of the corridors is 38 meters long and ends with a clay stopper. The southwestern part is somewhat smaller, has a length of 22 meters and also ends with overheating.
Opatovská Cave is easily accessible from the mentioned monastery. It is an easy and short route with a minimum elevation, which can really be managed by everyone.
