Description
The Orava Dam with an area of 35 km2 was built on the Orava River between 1941 and 1954. Four municipalities (Slanica, Osada, Oravské Hámre and Ústí nad Oravou) were flooded to built the reservoir, leaving only the uphill of the village of Slanica visible Slanica Island.
On the banks of the Orava Dam, there are recreational areas with the possibility of swimming, yachting, water biking, boating, surfing and other water sports. The most important recreation centers are a beach camp in Slanická Osada, Prístav and beaches at Námestovo and Tri Studničky.
