In the premises of Community Centre in Nové Mesto nad Váhom, there is the Peter Matejka Gallery, which is named after a native and especially an academic painter who is one of the founding personalities of modern Slovak fine art.
The gallery was opened in 2002 on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of his death. The mission of the gallery is collection, exhibition and popularization activities. The collection of the gallery consists mainly of works by prof. Peter Matejka and the artists who were born here, or their life and work were and are closely connected with Nové Mesto nad Váhom and the nearby region.
The Petr Matejka Gallery closely cooperates with M. A. Bazovský Gallery in Trenčín in all major exhibitions. The Gallery regularly organizes a vernissage of the collective exhibition named Returns, which is the pearl of the gallery's exhibition program, every 5 years.
