The Nitra Region Museum is an institution of homeland nature. Its collecting activities focus mainly on botany, zoology, archeology, history, ethnography and numismatics of the Nitra region. It currently manages more than 83,000 collections from all the above-mentioned fields.
The museum is housed in the beautiful neo-renaissance building, which was built in 1880 for the purposes of the town hall. The Nitra Region Museum offers visitors 3 permanent exhibitions:
Gems of ancient Slovakia - the exhibition presents more than 2300 unique archaeological finds from the Stone Age to the 18th century from the territory of Slovakia.
Study on old Nitra - the exhibition presents the clothing culture of the urban environment of Nitra and the reality of Nitra from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. It provides an insight into the rich history of clothing, period textiles, clothing accessories and hygiene standards from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.
Life in forest and aquatic habitats - an exhibition of nature of the Nitra region.
In addition to the permanent exhibitions, the museum prepares various exhibitions, lectures, discussions, as well as unconventional activities such as demonstrations of crafts, folklore and classical music concerts every year.
The Nitra Region Museum administers the Museum in Zlaté Moravce and since 2008 also the Folk Architecture Building House of folk dwelling in Šaľa.
