One of the architectural gems of Spišská Nová Ves is the Art Nouveau building dating from 1899 - 1902. It is a beautiful reduta building built by architect Kálmán Gerster. In addition to the theater, he placed also a hotel, a concert hall and a café in this three-story building.
The reduta building has a pompous decorated exterior and interior. Before the main entrance to the reduta, there is a portico on two columns with Ionic capitals. The gala concert hall is located exactly in the middle of the building. The main motifs of the decoration are the large coat of arms of the town of Spišská Nová Ves and the swan - a symbol of singing and poetry.
The theater consists of a ground floor and two rows of balconies, which is designed in a semi-circular form. The decoration of the theater is created by an eye-catching wall painting by Spišská Nová Ves painter Jozef Hanula, representing the High Tatras and the Sub-Tatran landscape.
Today, Reduta is the seat of the Spiš Theater, there is also a restaurant, a café, the Municipal Cultural Center and the local Reduta TV. The concert hall is used for classical music concerts as well as other chamber concerts.
