There is a unique peat bog near the village of Regetovka near Bardejov. This peat bog, which is also called "Stav" by the locals, is a very rare peat-bog of its kind in Slovakia. That is why it was declared protected in 1979 and became part of a nature reserve with the same name.
This natural phenomenon extends in a waterlogged shrinkage which is underflood by streams. The waterlogged location is continuously covered with peat moss and reaches a depth of 9 meters. Reget peat bog is surrounded by farmland and slope meadows.
Interestingly,it is one of few places that needs constant and systematic human intervention. While walking in the nature reserve of Regetovka peat bog, you can admire several rare species of plant communities, which have not been found elsewhere in Eastern Slovakia.
Regetovka peat bog can be reached by a short educational trail, beginning of which is in the village of Regetovka. The educational trail will introduce you to this unique location, as well as its fauna and flora, as well as its emergence and extremely rare significance.
