The evidence of the fact that the Roman armies once passed through our territory is also represented by the remains of various fortresses. One of them is the fortress of Kelemantia, which once was massive and impregnable.
To this day, only the remains from this fortress on the Danube shore, just about 2 km from the village of Iža, have been preserved. This unique historical monument was part of the so-called Limes Romanusand is proof of the more than 200-year presence of the Romans in this area.
Roman fortress in Iža was proclaimed a national cultural monument in 1991. Today, the whole area is adapted into a museum in nature and open to visitors free of charge throughout the year.
Here you can see the original and reconstructed buildings, the symbolic reconstruction of the entire southern part of the fortifications, the northern gate, the corner towers, the barracks from the 3rd century and a well or tanker.
The site is also a rare archaeological site. One of a number of unique finds is certainly the gold ring, a small sculpture of an ancient actor and a torso of a relief travertine sculpture of a naked man.
