Above the village of Košecké Podhradie, there are small ruins of the Košecký Castle. The castle was said to have been built by the Templars upon their return from Palestine. It is said that the first owner was the Templar knight Smaragdus.
The fortress has had several owners throughout the history, including Matthew Csák of Trenčín, Stibor family or Zápoľský family. The castle became a fatal year 1670, when it was undermined and subsequently demolished.
To date, almost nothing has been preserved from the castle. You will need a certain amount of imagination and very good vision when visiting. Already here and there, it is possible to explore rocks rising from lush vegetation. Nevertheless, there is a beautiful view of the surroundings and especially the village below the castle ruins.
The ruins are about 500m long marked hiking trail from the village Košecké Pohradie.
