Rysy are an iconic peak of the Tatras located in their main ridge on the Slovak-Polish border. They are credited with many precedences - the highest peak of Poland, the highest border crossing point, the most visited and highest peak in the Tatras, where an ordinary tourist can get on his own feet without using a cable car or a mountain guide.
Rysy have actually three peaks: the outlook (border) northwest, the middle (main) and southeast (the lowest). At the foot of the Slovak side of Rysy, there is a system of three lakes called Žabie plesá, which are a great stop when climbing to the top.
From the top parts of Rysy, after a rather demanding ascent, you will be able to enjoy a beautiful view of the entire panorama of the Tatras, for which crowds of tourists come here from Slovakia as well as from abroad. Rysy have simply a unique charm that every Tatra tourist has to experience.
The traditional starting point for hikes to Rysy is Poprad Mountain Lake. About 6 km long route from there leads through Mengusovská valley to Žabie plesá and Chalet below Rysy, where you can relax and recharge your energy and then continue to the top.
