In the town of Pezinok, there is a historic rural settlement, dominated by the construction of a Baroque water mill. It is the largest creek mill in Europe. In 1767, it was built on the Cajlanský creek by Pállfy family from Pezinok. The name is borne after its last owners, family of Schaubmar.
The single-storey mill has an attic and apartment for miller. The mill consisted of depots, stables, cutting room, barn, wood and apiary. Some of these farm buildings can still be admired, but no longer serve their original purpose.
The Schaubmar Mill was purchased in 1972 by the Slovak National Gallery, thanks to which the mill and its equipment were preserved. The mill is fully functional and operational. At present, the Schaumbmar Mill houses the Gallery of Naive Art, which focuses on modern and contemporary art.
Not only the gallery, but also the whole area is open to the public. There are regular openings, accompanying programs for children and concerts. A part of the mill area is also an orchard with more than 30 fruit trees and 100 fruit bushes planted.
In the mill, you can choose from a selection of nice books on art and nature for children and adults. You will also find various items from the production of Schaubmar Mill and the Slovak National Gallery. You can enjoy delicious coffee, lemonade or a cup of coffee in the Schaubmar Mill Café.
