Above the town of Žiar nad Hronom, there is a low, but very popular mountain, which is called Šibeničný Hill (Gallows Hill). It is a place where the locals walk if they want to escape from a busy city to the arms of peaceful nature.
Šibeničný Hill is one of the lower peaks in Kremnické Mountains, yet it is not lagging behind in comparison with others. All you need is just to go along the asphalt road and all of a sudden, you will find yourself at the very top, which offers beautiful views of the town of Žiar nad Hronom, which is surrounded by Kremnica and Štiavnica Hills, as well as the Vtáčnik mountain range.
Meadowy peak also offers the possibility of roasting. Aluminous tradition of Žiar nad Hronom is also referred to by a set cross made of aluminum. The natural attraction of this hill are oval stones, locals call them "valuns" ( i.e. chesils) that were brought here centuries ago by the Prahron River from the Low Tatras or the Slovak Ore Mountains.
Šibeničný Hill, despite being accessible via the asphalt road from the town, is closed for motorists. Only pedestrians or cyclists can get here on a 1.5 km long road.
