Description

The best way to cool yourself during the summer heats is to visit the cave. But not any of them. Enter the abyss of Silica Ice Cave.

The Silická Ice Cave is one of the most important natural sights of the Silická Plain in the Slovak Karst. It is located on the Silická Plain,** approximately 1.5 km west of the village of Silica.**

In fact, the Silica Iceb Caveis a cave abyss created by the sagging of the ceiling, revealing a steep, overhanging rock wall, with a depth of 91 meters. It is especially interesting because of its year-round ice decoration at the bottom of the abyss.

Silica Ice Cave is 1100 meters long and 110 meters deep. It is declared a national natural monument to protect its values. Only a part of the trail is accessible to tourists. Movement outside the pavement and portal terraces is forbidden and dangerous.

Archaeological findings show that this site was already inhabited at the time of the Neolithic, Bronze Age and La Tene Era. A yellow tourist trail leads from the village of Silica to the cave, and there is also another yellow route from the signpost Silická Ice Cave - parking lot (525 m above sea level).

Hiking enthusiasts will be delighted to see that Silická Ice Cave is located close to the popular Babská hora abyss.
