Slanecký Castle was a Gothic castle from the 13th century, which was destroyed in 1679. One three-storey tower and several walls have been preserved. The gothic window arch has an outstanding architectural value
After the turbulent events of the second half of the 15th century associated with the activities of fraternal groups in eastern Slovakia, the castle was severely damaged and in 1490, Ladislav Lossonczy had to invest in its repair. During the centuries, the castle changed owners several times until in 1815 Jozef Forgách reconstructed the central castle tower and established a family museum there.
However, during the Second World War, the castle tower began to deteriorate until it completely burned down in 1945. The wooden roof was restored after the fire and protected the tower's interior for a long time before the weather, but at the beginning of the 21st century it completely disintegrated due to weather conditions.
The ruins lie on the outskirts of the village of Slanec and lead to the well-marked hiking trails. From the village, it is just about 800 m on the walkaway to get there.
