The Slovak Mining Museum is the only one of its kind in the territory of Slovakia. It was founded in 1964 by the fusion of the City Museum and the State Mining Museum Dionýz Štúr. The museum provides a comprehensive picture and idea of mining as well as its related industries. Last but not least, it also documents the history of Banská Štiavnica and its surroundings.
The main seat of the museum is in the historical building complex Kammerhof - the former seat of the Chamber counts and the mining directorate. Visitors will find here the largest exposition offering a view not only of mining equipment. Mining itself - the extraction of raw materials begins with the discovery of the deposit, geological exploration, it uses various working tools, mining maps, lamps and means of transport are needed. These complex, even simpler activities, which the mining work represents, are presented in the exhibition from the oldest archaeological finds to the 20th century.
