Obviously one of the most typical architectural landmarks of Bratislava is the building of the Slovak Radio, known for many as the "inverted pyramid". The unconventional masterpiece of late modernism is a kind of symbol of the rebellion of Czechoslovak architectural and construction work of the 1960s and 1970s.
The media radio center is built of steel construction and the total height of the building to the top of the antenna is 80 meters. This architectural gem is the holder of the title Building of the Century in Slovakia in the category of community buildings. The authors of the project are Štefan Svetko, Štefan Ďurkovič and Barnabáš Kissling.
The building was completed in 1983 and regular broadcasts began from March 1985. The interior features generous spaces, an excellent concert hall and well-equipped recording studios.
The large concert studio of the Slovak Radio regularly hosts concerts of the Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra and other concerts of classical music, popular singers, but also alternative groups.
There is also one of the largest organs in Central Europe with 6300 whistles, that is why Slovak Radio is the venue of Organ concerts under the pyramid. Today, the "inverted pyramid" is a cultural monument and the seat of public service radio.
