Spiš Jerusalem is a unique concept of territory reminiscent of ancient Jerusalem. It is located in Spišská Kapitula, in a locality called Pažica. Spiš Jerusalem was founded at a time when pilgrimages to the Holy Land were problematic due to the war with the Turks.
This unique model landscape lies on a travertine hill, which in itself is a very rare natural monument with a unique habitat. Jerusalem of Spiš consists of the Chapel of St. Rosalia, which represents Herod's Palace, Chapel of St. Francis Xavier, which symbolizes the Roman fortress of Antonia - the seat of Pontius Pilate - and the Chapel of the Holy Cross, which represents Golgotha. The whole area is surrounded by seven small road chapels, which symbolize the walls of the real Jerusalem.
Spiš Jerusalem is a unique phenomenon unparalleled in Slovakia. As part of a joint revitalization project, several elements have been added to the Jerusalem of Spiš route that make this place even more attractive to tourists. There are rest zones, information and navigation boards. The site is accessible by a hiking trail between Spišská Kapitula and Sivá brada.
