West of the village of Leles, there is a historic monument from the 14th century that local people are truly proud of. It is a Gothic stone bridge, which in the past bridged one of the arms of the river Tisa. At present, it only spans a dry arm dotted with greenery. It is supposed to be the oldest bridge ever.
At the time of its greatest luster, the bridge included 17-kilometer line between the municipalities of Kráľovský Chlmec and Veľké Kapušany. It got its name only in the 19th century, when the monastery of Leles was taken over by the Premonstratensians from Bohemia, who brought here the cult of St. John of Nepomuk and St. Gotthard, whose statue stood at the bridge until 1848.
This rare cultural monument is 70 meters long and 5 meters wide. It is built of slate andesite, which was mined in nearby quarries in Chlmecké Hills. The vaulted bridge is closed for road traffic because of nature protection and can only be reached on foot. The route is unpretentious and manageable even by small children.
