The dominant feature of Šurany is the large two-tower church dedicated to the first Christian martyr, St. Stephen. It is located in the heart of the city, surrounded by greenery.
The church was built by Nitra bishop Štefan Bosniak in the early 17th century. In 1936, the aisle was demolished for safety reasons and the construction of a new church began again.
Two Baroque towers have been preserved from the original church. The church was consecrated in 1942. There are frescoes and paintings by the academic painter Edmund Massányi.
The church has three altars, and above the main altar, there is a fresco of St. Stephen's Passion. Even though the two-tower temple is more modestly decorated, it is undoubtedly one of the gems of church architecture in South Slovakia.
