The attractive tourist town of Vyhne is located in the Štiavnické Hills in the Vyhnianska Valley. The tourists are attracted not only by the thermal water, Vyhniansky travertine or beautiful nature, but also by a unique phenomenon - the stone sea at the foot of the Kamenná hill.
It is the largest stone sea in the volcanic part of the Carpathians and one of the oldest protected areas in Slovakia, which is valuable for its geological value.
The view of this sea of rocks encircled by the forest creates respect and leaves a strong impression on you. The stone sea in Vyhne was created by volcanic activity. It consists mainly of rhyolite boulders of reddish and sky-blue colour.
A trip to the Stone Sea is certainly a pleasant walk full of interesting information, as this natural formation is part of the educational trail of A. Kmeť. The marked trail is about 1 km far from the village of Vyhne.
The Stone Sea itself rises above the village and can be seen from afar. You will surely enjoy the excellent view from the local swimming pool or from the chalet area.
