


The remnants of volcanic activity are a unique phenomenon in Slovakia, so they attract the attention of many tourists every year.
One such volcanic unique is the Stone Waterfall, which is part of the Šomoška National Nature Reserve, not far from town of Fiľakovo and in close proximity to the Hungarian border.
Basalt waterfall was created by solidification of lava under specific conditions. It consists of six-sided basalt columns and is 9 meters high. Below it, there is a stone sea, whose surface is formed by fragments of basalt columns.
The site is led by various long marked hiking trails from the surrounding villages. This European natural unique is surrounded by the untouched beautiful nature that you can enjoy to the fullness along educational trail of Somoška, as the Stone Waterfall is one of its stops. The educational trail leads up to Šomoška Castle, or better said, its ruins that remained from it.
The fastest access to the castle and the waterfall is from the Hungarian side of Somoskő.
