The Studený hrad (Cold Castle) is a place where an old wooden hillfort stood sometimes around the 11th century. There is no way to find it there today, because it has ceased to exist in the 13th century. Nevertheless, it is a very popular place among tourists.
Lookout Cold Castle allows a perfect view of the surrounding countryside as well as the neighbouring Gýmeš Castle, whose debris is beautifully enchanted between the tree-like vegetation and thy look magical.
Ascent to the Cold Castle is recommended especially in summer, as in good weather it is possible to freely climb a rocky chimney and climb the upper edge of the rocks of the Cold Castle. In the winter, it is necessary to take great care already on the hiking trail itself and it is not recommended to climb the boulders.
In places of majestic and steep rocks, you will definitely find brave mountaineers. It is also the case for the quartzite boulders of the Cold Castle. Because of their easy and undemanding access, they have been a sought-after climbing terrain for many years.
The easiest access to the castle is via the yellow tourist path from Jelenec. The route is approximately 2 km long. Although the entrance to the castle leads through the covered part of the moat, it certainly does not discourage true tourists, and it certainly is worth it because of the magnificent views from the quartzite boulders.
