Štúr's Rock is located in Stará Turá near the water reservoir Dubník. It is a natural phenomenon, rising from a wooded slope. The rock bears a distinctive name after the famous Slovak writer Ľudovít Štúr.
In the revolutionary years of 1848-49, this rock was the place of secret meetings of fugitive Ľudovít Štúr, who was then persecuted by the Hungarian authorities, and the local evangelical priest J. Trokan, who helped Štúr and his companions in their national activities. This historical event is also reminded by a small plaquette attached to this rocky rock.
Štúr's Rock is a popular place of relaxation especially for locals, but tourists from remote parts of Slovakia come here often too. In addition, Štúr's rock presents an ideal rocky object for mountaineers, offering excellent practice terrain.
Climbing the hill, from where Štúr's rock stands, is unpretentious. The route leads over the sheepfarm, offering wonderful views of the town of Stará Turá. Štúr's rock is accessible not only from Stará Turá, but also from the village of Kostolné, where the burial site of the Lusatian culture from the Early Bronze Age was uncovered.
