The massive Súľov reefs became the property of kings and noble nobility. In the 15th century, the Súľov Castle was built between the three massive rock formations. As per its size, it is one of the smallest Slovak castles.
To this day, only the ruins have been preserved from the once observation and protection castle, which can hardly be recognized. The castle complex consisted of upper and lower castle. The remains of the castle's masonry are now embedded in the cliffs in Súľov rocks.
Until 1730, the castle was occupied by the army and so it at least performed its function properly. In the 19th century, however, the castle was severely damaged by the earthquake and nobody cared for it since then.
Súľov Castle is a pleasant tourist attraction in Súľov rocks. There are beautiful views of the surrounding area from its top.
Several hiking trails lead to Súľov Castle. For example, you can choose the Súľov chalet situated just before the beginning of the village with the same name. It is an educational trail with information boards. The trip to Súľov Castle is not demanding, but it leads between rocky cliffs and is therefore not quite suitable for the smallest children.
