The mountains are not only beautiful but also treacherous. Visitors to Vrátna can pay homage to those who loved the mountains above all but they became fatal to them at the local symbolic cemetery. The Mountain Rescue Service was responsible for creating this symbolic cemetery.
Symbolic cemetery in Vrátna was founded in 1998 and is dedicated to victims of mountain disasters in Little Fatra. A small reverent place is located near the cottage Vrátna, under a rocky hill in the arms of beautiful nature. The whole place is dominated by a small, roofed chapel with a cross and memorial tables of those whose fate has been sealed by mountains.
By the construction of the symbolic cemetery, 52 people died in Little Fatra and since 1998 it has been 42 people. The symbolic cemetery is thus a show of respect for the victims of the mountains, but at the same time a message and warning for the mountain visitors.
