You may not even know, but you can also find synagogues in Slovakia. And there is not only few of them. Many of them are in a well-preserved state and are listed in the Central List of Cultural Monuments of Slovakia for their rare architectural value.
One of these important synagogues is the Synagogue in Malacky. It can boast of a rich history and immense architectural value. It is one of the landmarks of the town center.
It was built in the Moorish style, and the rich ornamental stucco, the central element - the ark and the alcove to store the Torah scrolls - were preserved. Due to its value, the synagogue was included in the project of the Slovak Jewish Heritage Route.
In the 1950s, the Jewish religious community sold the synagogue in Malacky to the state and so it is used for cultural and social purposes. The synagogue interior is accessible only with a guide and the tour must be booked at least one day in advance.
