The Prešov Jewish Museum was founded in 1928 as the first of its kind in Slovakia. It is located in the beautiful premises of an orthodox synagogue built between 1897 - 1898. The exterior of the building has smooth facades, divided by slender windows. The interior is imposing, decorated with rich Oriental-style murals.
The synagogue is currently used as a house of prayer, but is also open to the public. In addition to the Ark, which is used for storing Torah scrolls or a high place with a worship table used to read the Torah, visitors can also view the permanent exhibition of Bárkany's collection of Judaica - an exhibition of the Museum of Jewish Culture.
