The history of the Tatra Gallery began in 1960. At that time, its seat was Starý Smokovec. Over the years, the seat changed several times until it finally became home to a steam power plant in Poprad.
The gallery processes and presents to the public mainly the works of visual artists of Spiš and the wider East Slovak region, important personalities of Slovak art. Visitors have the opportunity to view the permanent exposure "Exposed Values".

The gallery also attracts the attention of the cultural public through several large exhibition projects and events at the Tatra Gallery Power Plant. The unique space of the power plant offers a unique opportunity for contemporary Slovak and foreign artists, but also artists from the field of contemporary dance, music and theater to present the most interesting and contemporary of their work.
