Tematín Castle, or better said the ruins that remain from it, are still majestically rising above the Váh river valley. Since the 13th century, this castle was the center of the manor comprising several villages lying on the left bank of the Váh.
Central Považie region is one of the oldest housing estates in Slovakia. The fertile floodplain of the Váh River, the nearby hot springs in Piešťany and the mild climate have made this micro-region very attractive for settlement since time immemorial. Archaeological findings provide us with sufficient testimony to the fact that people have established their settlements here virtually continuously since prehistoric times. These favourable conditions for settlement also attracted our Slavic ancestors in the early Middle Ages.
You can get to the castle by about 3 km long marked hiking trails from the villages of Lúka, Hrádok - Dolina or Bezovec and there is also a marked cycling trail.
