On the eastern edge of the mountains of the Little Carpathians, there is a small town of Svätý Jur. Above it, just 30 minutes' walk, the ruins of the Biely Kameň Castle (White Stone Castle) rise.
Early Gothic castle was built by landlords of Svätý Jur shortly after the Tartar invasion in 1241. It formed part of a system of small Carpathian castles serving to protect the western border of Hungary. Thanks to its location, it allowed to check the trade route from Bratislava to Trnava and side mountain road leading to Stupava.
From the once monumental castle, only a few remnants that once were Bohemian halls have been preserved. With the naked eye, you can see the window openings, the remains of the Gothic brick vault, the vaulted cellar on the north side or the perimeter walls.
The castle is now also part of the local educational trail. Despite its position above the town, it does not offer views because it is embedded in the forest and thus hidden. Despite this, it is charged with enchantingly magical and a bit mysterious atmosphere.
The ideal starting point to the ruins of the castle is from the town of Svätý Jur along the yellow tourist trail, or from the White Cross along the same trail.
