The ancient ruins of the castle Veľký Kamenec spread on a hill in the center of the village with the same name. It was probably built on the king's initiative as a guard castle in the second half of the 13th century.
The current state of the castle Veľký Kamenec makes it possible to imagine that the castle complex consisted of three spatial parts - the Upper Castle, the Lower Castle and the Forecastle. Part of the medieval castle was probably a cistern in the courtyard and probably also a church under the castle, because the ramparts and walls extend up to here.
With the naked eye, one can observe the castle palace with a large southern tower-bastion, a small western bastion and a larger polygonal northern bastion. From the castle hill, there is a nice view of the picturesque village of Veľký Kamenec.
The castle ruins are easily accessible and visible directly from the village. It is an easy and relatively short walk suitable for all ages.
