If you are a seeker and admirer of unique natural beauties, you should not miss the wonderful travertine of Vyhne. It is ocated in the picturesque village of Vyhne about 10 km from Banská Štiavnica.
The natural monument travertine of Vyhne is a travertine column (mound) with a waterfall. The height is about 3.5 m. It was formed by settling the travertine limestone from the water flowing out of the old mining tunnel, which is very rich in limestone. As this karst formation is still alive, it is constantly growing.
Locals call it "Mammoth of Vyhne" and why just such a name? Because if you look at it from a distance, it will remind you of this majestic animal from the Ice Age.
The travertine of Vyhne is located in an attractive tourist and recreational area. In its close proximity (about 100 meters) is also a thermal swimming pool Vodný raj Vyhne (Water Paradise of Vyhne).
For tourists from other parts of Slovakia, the identification of this travertine may be a bit more challenging as it is surrounded by tennis courts. However, Andrej Kmeť's educational trail, which was built around the village of Vyhne, will lead you to the place without any problems.
Although travertine of Vyhne is the first stop of this educational trail, it is necessary to take into account that you will not get to its close proximity because of sports grounds. Its magical silhouette can be seen from approx. 30 meters distance.
