The architecturally magnificent and historically rich seat of the Gallery of Turiec (Turčianska galéria) is the so-called County House. Most likely, the County House was built in the 17th century as a Chamber, the seat of the court, the county archive, the treasury and for the representative purposes of the burghers of the town of Turčianský Svätý Martin.
Today, this historic building is part of Martin's modern city center. It is located on Daxner Street, which belongs to the pedestrian zone. The Gallery is a museum-type institution with regional competence.
The gallery building has more than 700 m2 of exhibition and presentation areas, from the ground floor to the second floor of both wings. Most of the exhibition space is characterized by vaults and two-sided vistas. In the county house, visitors can admire the works of art by artists, designers who are in some way associated with the city of Martin or the Turiec region.
It also offers sufficient space for established Slovak and foreign artists as well as for the youngest generation. The permanent exhibition of the Gallery is called the Slovak Modern Art of the 20th Century in Turiec. The Gallery also offers a rich tangle of temporary exhibitions.
