The Uhrovec Castle is a ruin above the village of Uhrovské Podhradie. It was built in the 13th century in the inaccessible terrain of the Nitrica Hills. During the centuries the castle changed owners several times, but thanks to its location it never found itself in the center of great fighting - not even Turkish troops destroyed it at their raids.
In the 18th century, the owners moved to a more comfortable mansion in Uhrovec and the castle found its use as a prison. In the 19th century, however, the castle was struck by a fire and since then, it has been abandoned. Thanks to its secluded location, a relatively compact ruin with nice examples of the interconnection of several stylistic periods has been preserved.
There is a marked tourist trail leading from Uhrovský podhradie to the castle, which is about 1 km long.
