The highest thousender on the Slovak side of the Moravian-Silesian Beskydy Mountains is Veľký Polom. It rises majestically above the village of Raková, the birthplace of the writer and playwright Ján Palárik.
This beautiful piece of Slovak land will catch you by heart. Beautiful nature, silence, scattered settlements, solitude, endless meadows and dark dense forests. All this is waiting for you if you go hiking there.
The top of this hill is a nature reserve with a 5th degree of protection on both sides of the border. Probably the most valuable reserves are the remains of the original forests. In some places, truly magnificent views open from the top. You can admire nearby surroundings, Čadca as well as the Czech part of the mountains.
About one kilometer from the top, there is a beautiful chapel on Muřínek Hill with a well-groomed well. A little more distant on the Czech side is Stone cottage with a lookout tower Tetřev and cottages Skalka and Severka.
