Above the village of Divinka, there is a low hill which is actually called the Veľký vrch (The Great Hill). At its peak, there used to be an ancient fort, which today represents one of the largest and most important monuments of its kind not only in Slovakia but throughout Central Europe.
The hillfort was an important military, economic and cultural center during the late Bronze Age, the Iron Age, later in the La Tène and Roman era, and finally in the Great Moravian period.
Even today, there are huge mounds that not only surround the upper plateau of the hill, but also the wide space on its northern side. The mounds reach up to 6 m in height. The site is a precious archaeological site of valuable Dacian and Quad ceramics, fragments of Slavic vessels, as well as bronze jewelry, iron tools and silver coins.
From the peak of Velký vrch, there are beautiful views of the village of Divinka, the Javorníky Mountains and the Hričovská Dam. There is an educational trail leading to the fort with seven information boards (approx. 2 km), which starts in the center of the village Divinky. There are relaxation areas on the trail too.
