The area of Kysucká vrchovina (Kysucká Uplands) is always attractive for tourists regardless of whether it is summer or winter season. One of the iconic hills of this mountain range is Veľký Vreteň, which rises above the oldest Kysuce village Radoľa. The hill offers excellent tourism and, especially for the residents of nearby Kysucké Nové Mesto, provides a sort of escape from the city rush to the quiet and beautiful lap of nature.
The massif of Velký Vreteň, including the top part, is covered with mixed spruce-beech and thus offers more or less no views. Just below the summit, there is a place of relaxation with benches and a cross, where you will at least partially have a view of Kysucké Nové Mesto and the Javorníky Mountains.
The simplest ascent route leads along the green-marked trail from the village of Radoľa. The first part of the road leads through the village and adjacent meadows and the second part along the serpentine path leads through the beech forest. The ascent takes about 70 minutes and is not demanding.
