Description

The highest peak of the Little Carpathians mountain range is Záruby, which in its full beauty rises to a height of 768 m above sea level near Smolenice. The hill is also the center of the nature reserve with the same name, whose subject of protection are local rare rock communities and deciduous Carpathian forests.

Záruby Hill offers undemanding, very pleasant tourism suitable for families with children in any season. The hike is not long, you should get there in about 5 hours. The ascent route usually leads through a nice forest, only at the last ascent meters the forest road turns into a rocky terrain.

The peak itself, as it is open, is still relatively windy. But unfavorable weather conditions will will be compensated by beautiful views of the surroundings. From the top, you can continue westwards until you reach the ruins of the medieval castle Ostrý Kameň (Sharp Rock).

The Záruby Hill can also be completed as part of a round trip from Smolenice to Ostrý Kameň along the ridge and back through the Brezinky Valley. Or across the whole Little Carpathians. However, if you want to get off at Záruby, good starting points are Smolenice (approx. 4km) or Buková Reservoir (approx. 4km).
