In the beautiful surroundings of the Cigánska Valley, which separates the mountains Tribeč and Pohronský Inovec, there are remnants of the Živánská Tower. Once a massive and high tower has now been outgrown by the surrounding trees, which hid it well from the eyes of curious tourists.
The Živánska Tower near Jedľové Kostoľany had a very important mission in the Middle Ages, which was related to business activities, increasing the importance of the trade route from Nová Baňa to Upper Požitavie region and the need to collect fees.
The tower consisted of several floors. There are also unconfirmed rumors about the tower that it was connected underground to the castle of Hrušov. The watchtower was lowered after the destruction of Hrušov Castle after 1708, but the northern part has been preserved in a relatively good condition up to five floors.
Živánska tower is easily accessible and the starting point of hikes is usually Jedľové Kostolany, from where leads to the site about 3 km long marked cycle path along the asphalt road. From the asphalt road, however, you must turn towards the end of the route into the forest, where you will be directed by the tourist panel. The path through the forest is short, but it is necessary to expect a steep uphill.
