Description
Karanč Hill is located in the volcanic mountain range of Cerova vrchovina, which lies on the border with Hungary. With its altitude of 727 m above sea level, it can boast not only with the attribute of the highest peak in this volcanic mountain range, but also the lookout tower.
The lookout tower cuts through the dense beech forest and rises up to 20 meters. It has a steel structure and two observation platforms, from which you can enjoy beautiful views, whether on the Slovak or Hungarian side.
Castles such as Šomoška and Salgó, wide forests, but also cities such as Lučenec and Salgótarján will emerge in the distance, and in good weather you can also observe the peaks of the Tatras.
A marked hiking trail from the village of Šiatorská Bukovina (approx. 4km far) leads you to the lookout tower on Karanč Hill, but access is possible and certainly interesting from the Hungarian side as well.
